Youth Basketball Camp

Hawley Community Ed offers a week of basketball camp this summer, but if you are looking for something in addition to the week in Hawley, NDSU offers a camp the second week of June and is pretty affordable. If you are interested in sending your girl, check with other parents because we can share the carpooling that week. http://www.ndsuwomensbasketballcamps.com/junior-bison-camp.cfm

Great Last Practice

The girls had a great last day of practice today and finished it off with dilly bars! We also had a team photo for them, but there will be a link to all the basketball pictures and videos later this weekfor those wanting prints. If anyone has some they want to share, please email them to us at ladyhawleynuggets@gmail.com and we will add them to the folder. Open Gym is still open through Spring and even better, it's free. It is a great time to burn some energy and practice their B.E.E.F. shooting skills. Thanks again for the hard work and being flexible with schedules to get the girls to practice and games! Kathleen & Kirsti

Autograph Night

Reminder: this Friday (February 22nd) is Autograph Night with the Varsity Girls Basketball Team. All girls basketball players Grades 3-6 are invited to attend and they will be able to get autographs of the varsity players after the Varsity Game. The Tema has team posters to give to the girls after the game, but even if you can't stay for the whole game, come and cheer the girls on to victory!

Practice Today but no pictures

We will have practice today but we know not everyone can make it and we were lucky to get a picture of all the girls on Thursday night anyway, so no need to come in maroon today. :-)

Scrimmage Thursday

Reminder: Thursday, February 14th, the girls one last opportunity to scrimmage during halftime of the B-Team's game. They should arrive by 5:35pm. Kirsti Fleming will be in the gym waiting for them and then take them to sit behind the B-Team. If they could arrive wearing the specific t-shirt, that will help. We will have extras on hand in case we need to quick change. As the girls have always practiced as a team, this will help them identify who is on their team. The teams are simply divided up on the availability of shirts as it is only a 7-minute scrimmage among themselves.

GOLD SHIRTS: Grace, Jada, Kaylie, Tallyn, Samantha, Taylor
MAROON SHIRTS: Kylie, Mackenzie, Alex, Kira, Faith, Lily, Madi
Based on how many arrive tomorrow, we will switch teams to even them out. If you know ahead of time that you cannot come, please let us know. Thanks.

MESSAGE FROM COACH GOTTENBORG: Being a proud participant in the Nugget FUNdamental League you are invited to play at half-time against your classmates of a B-squad girls basketball game. You will be allowed to attend free of charge. Come to the game at 5:35pm. Wear gym clothes and tennis shoes, and preferably a maroon or gold shirt (see above). You will get a chance to go into the locker room before the B-game and listen to Coach Ben Lofgren fire up his B-team before the game. Please sit directly behind the Hawley Nugget Bench in the bleachers and watch the games. You will play on the Nugget gym floor at halftime of the first game. You are also invited to stand in line with the varsity team during the introductions of starting lineups and cheer the girls on to victory. See the schedule below for the games you are invited to play at. On February 22 is Autograph night and all girls basketball players Grades 3-6 are invited to attend and you will be able to get autographs of varsity players after the Varsity Game.

Team Pictures this Sunday at practice. If the girls could wear a mostly maroon t-shirt, such as the ones they received from the PTO in Kindergarten, that would be great. I will have a few extra maroon shirts just in case.

News for February

We have some updates for February that we thought required a new post! Even though it is SuperBowl Sunday, we are still having practice...we understand if you have plans, but we will be there if the girls can make it. We will be sharing the gym with the 4th Grade Girls team on Sunday as well. Also, quite a few girls have been striving to earn their basketball and have been heading over to Open Gym in the High School with us, but it's been packed and balls are flying all over the place. Coach Bill Gottenborg said we can stay at the Elementary School Gym to get more quality time (and access to more than one hoop); we will keep track of the girls punches so they can still earn their ball. We will be staying this Sunday until 4:30 for any girls who want to stay and play. Remember, there is a Hot Shots Tourney, Sunday the 10th of February, so we won't have practice that day. Thursday, February 14th is the next opportunity for the girls to scrimmage during half-time of the B-Team Game. You will need to arrive by 5:30pm. We will probably stick with the same arrangement as last time (for t-shirts if you wore gold last time, wear it again...if you wore maroon, plan on your PTO T-shirt or something solid maroon like it). We can post a reminder closer to the date. Sunday, February 17th we would like to take a team picture of the girls. If everyone could plan to wear the maroon t-shirts they received from the PTO, that would be great...we have a few extras if you don't have one anymore. If you know you are not able to make it on the 17th, please let us know and we will try for a different date. Below is an abbreviated schedule:

  • 2/03/12 - Practice, Elementary Gym, 2:00pm - 3:30pm
  • 2/03/12 - {optional} Open Gym in the Elementary or HS Gym, 3:30pm - 4:30pm
  • 2/10/12 - NO PRACTICE
  • 2/14/12 - Scrimmage during B-Team Game, HHS Gym, arrive by 5:30pm
  • 2/17/12 - Practice & Pictures, Elementary Gym, 2:00pm - 3:30pm
  • 2/17/12 - { optional } Open Gym in the Elementary or HS Gym, 3:30pm - 4:30pm
  • 2/24/12 - Practice, Elementary Gym, 2:00pm - 3:30pm
