Hawley HotShot Tourney [ updated ]

The brackets are posted! We play on Saturday, January 4th. All our games are in the high school, east gym. Concessions will be provided in the HS. Please wear your late night with the nuggets tee or any white tee as Bill will let us borrow jerseys. Also, please wear maroon or black gym shorts. Remember to bring a water bottle (with your name on it) for the bench. Please arrive with pants and sweatshirt over your shorts as there is time in between games and girls may get cold.

Since all the girls plan to attend the Hawley tournament, we have temporarily divided them up into three mini teams and each mini team will play four 4-minute quarters amongst the three games. Each game consists of four 4-minute quarters. Note: we plan to mix the girls up for each tourney. If you cannot make one or more of the games, please let us know ahead of time so we can plan accordingly.
  • 8:30am vs. DGF Black
  • 10:30am vs. DGF White
  • 12:30pm vs. Rothsay
For any parents who like to keep score or are interested in the rules, please feel free to view/print the attachment. Click Here for Tourney Info.

The Hawley Hoopsters

The girls have chosen the name "Hawley Hoopsters" for their team name (through 6th grade). The uniforms are ordered and unfortunately the company we are getting them from will not be able to get all the sizes in the blue/white color by our first tourney. No big deal - but I'm bummed they won't have them in time. Does every girl have a Late Night with the Nuggets tee from this year? Please let us know if you do NOT and we can find you one to borrow. Then we will ask that each girl wear black shorts as well for the tourney. Between all the coaches, we can find spare black shorts if you don't have a pair. PLEASE confirm if you do or do not have this to wear to the Hawley Hot Shot Tourney on the 4th/5th. Also, many parents/students have requested to get their name on the back of their jersey (it is only $3.50 extra). If you do NOT want this, please contact us ASAP otherwise we are going to assume all want their last name on the blue side of the back of the jersey top. Knowing this, the price (including shipping) for the uniforms is $22.79/player. See their logo below - this will appear on the front of their jersey and on the left leg of the shorts.

Break Schedule

There will not be any Monday night practices until after the break, beginning again on the 6th of January. However, we plan to do practice in the elementary gym BOTH Sundays before the tourney as the girls need quite a bit of practice to be ready. Please refer to our blog's calendar if you aren't sure. Also, uniforms were ordered and once we get the invoice, we will send out an email on what is owed. Once the girls have their uniform, please have your girls wear them to practice as well as it makes it easier for scrimmage practice. Thanks!

  • Sunday, 12/29, 1:30-3pm, Elementary Gym
  • Saturday, 1/4, Hot Shot Tourney, HS East Gym

Scrimmages During JV Games

Thursday, February 14th is the first opportunity for the girls to scrimmage during half-time of the B-Team Game. You will need to arrive by 5:30pm. The 3rd Grade girls will be joining with us as they don't have enough players to scrimmage each other. If everyone could plan to wear a white shirt (like the Late Night with the Nuggests shirts) to the scrimmage, that will make it easier to sort out into teams. We will have practice jerseys to put over the tees so they can tell who their opponents are. If you know you are not able to make it on Thursday, please let us know via ladyhawleynuggets@gmail.com so we can prepare. All three dates are on our blog's calendar. See below for details about the scrimmage:

MESSAGE FROM COACH GOTTENBORG: Being a proud participant in the Nugget FUNdamental League you are invited to play at half-time against your classmates of a B-squad girls basketball game. You will be allowed to attend free of charge. Come to the game at the time listed below. Wear gym clothes and tennis shoes, and a shirt designated by your coaches. You will get a chance to go into the locker room before the B-game and listen to Coach Ben Lofgren fire up his B-team before the game. Girls - please sit directly behind the Hawley Nugget Bench in the bleachers and watch the games (your coaches will meet you over there). You will play on the Nugget gym floor at halftime of the first game. You are also invited to stand in line with the varsity team during the introductions of starting lineups and cheer the girls on to victory. See the schedule below for the games you are invited to play at. February 25th is Autograph night and all girls basketball players Grades 3-6 are invited to attend and you will be able to get autographs of varsity players after the Varsity Game.

    • Aubrey #3
    • Paige #11
    • Shelby #5
    • Kaylie #13

    2014 Tournaments

We have chosen the four tournaments to participate in, based on their proximity to Hawley and the likelihood of playing against teams with similar experience to our girls. Girls are not required to play at any or all tournaments. There is a cost to participate in each tourney (generally $125/team - depending on committment numbers, we may have one team or we may have two). Please RSVP for each tournament to ladyhawleynuggets@gmail.com

Note: the first two tournaments are two days, but it does not necessarily mean we play both days; however, we do not know what days we would play at this time. Most tournaments are a 3-game guarantee.

    • January 4th - 5th: Hawley Hot Shot Tourney (Hawley)
    • January 18th - 19th: DGF Rebel Booster Club Tourney (Glyndon)
    • January 25th: Gateway to the Lakes Tourney (LPA)
    • February 8th: Titan Girls Basketball Tourney (Ulen)

Reminder: Open Gym for elementary students is Sunday, 3:30-4:30pm in the high school. Bill Gottenborg was going to follow up as some high school students have been attending the wrong open gym session. Remember to track your open gym attendance at the desk so that you can earn your basketball - attend 5 times and earn your maroon and white ball!

    Youth Basketball Camp

Hawley Community Ed offers a week of basketball camp this summer, but if you are looking for something in addition to the week in Hawley, NDSU offers a camp the second week of June and is pretty affordable. If you are interested in sending your girl, check with other parents because we can share the carpooling that week. http://www.ndsuwomensbasketballcamps.com/junior-bison-camp.cfm

    Great Last Practice

The girls had a great last day of practice today and finished it off with dilly bars! We also had a team photo for them, but there will be a link to all the basketball pictures and videos later this weekfor those wanting prints. If anyone has some they want to share, please email them to us at ladyhawleynuggets@gmail.com and we will add them to the folder. Open Gym is still open through Spring and even better, it's free. It is a great time to burn some energy and practice their B.E.E.F. shooting skills. Thanks again for the hard work and being flexible with schedules to get the girls to practice and games! Kathleen & Kirsti

    Autograph Night

Reminder: this Friday (February 22nd) is Autograph Night with the Varsity Girls Basketball Team. All girls basketball players Grades 3-6 are invited to attend and they will be able to get autographs of the varsity players after the Varsity Game. The Tema has team posters to give to the girls after the game, but even if you can't stay for the whole game, come and cheer the girls on to victory!

    Practice Today but no pictures

We will have practice today but we know not everyone can make it and we were lucky to get a picture of all the girls on Thursday night anyway, so no need to come in maroon today. :-)

    Scrimmage Thursday

Reminder: Thursday, February 14th, the girls one last opportunity to scrimmage during halftime of the B-Team's game. They should arrive by 5:35pm. Kirsti Fleming will be in the gym waiting for them and then take them to sit behind the B-Team. If they could arrive wearing the specific t-shirt, that will help. We will have extras on hand in case we need to quick change. As the girls have always practiced as a team, this will help them identify who is on their team. The teams are simply divided up on the availability of shirts as it is only a 7-minute scrimmage among themselves.

GOLD SHIRTS: Grace, Jada, Kaylie, Tallyn, Samantha, Taylor
MAROON SHIRTS: Kylie, Mackenzie, Alex, Kira, Faith, Lily, Madi
Based on how many arrive tomorrow, we will switch teams to even them out. If you know ahead of time that you cannot come, please let us know. Thanks.

Team Pictures this Sunday at practice. If the girls could wear a mostly maroon t-shirt, such as the ones they received from the PTO in Kindergarten, that would be great. I will have a few extra maroon shirts just in case.

    News for February

We have some updates for February that we thought required a new post! Even though it is SuperBowl Sunday, we are still having practice...we understand if you have plans, but we will be there if the girls can make it. We will be sharing the gym with the 4th Grade Girls team on Sunday as well. Also, quite a few girls have been striving to earn their basketball and have been heading over to Open Gym in the High School with us, but it's been packed and balls are flying all over the place. Coach Bill Gottenborg said we can stay at the Elementary School Gym to get more quality time (and access to more than one hoop); we will keep track of the girls punches so they can still earn their ball. We will be staying this Sunday until 4:30 for any girls who want to stay and play. Remember, there is a Hot Shots Tourney, Sunday the 10th of February, so we won't have practice that day. Thursday, February 14th is the next opportunity for the girls to scrimmage during half-time of the B-Team Game. You will need to arrive by 5:30pm. We will probably stick with the same arrangement as last time (for t-shirts if you wore gold last time, wear it again...if you wore maroon, plan on your PTO T-shirt or something solid maroon like it). We can post a reminder closer to the date. Sunday, February 17th we would like to take a team picture of the girls. If everyone could plan to wear the maroon t-shirts they received from the PTO, that would be great...we have a few extras if you don't have one anymore. If you know you are not able to make it on the 17th, please let us know and we will try for a different date. Below is an abbreviated schedule:

    • 2/03/12 - Practice, Elementary Gym, 2:00pm - 3:30pm
    • 2/03/12 - {optional} Open Gym in the Elementary or HS Gym, 3:30pm - 4:30pm
    • 2/10/12 - NO PRACTICE
    • 2/14/12 - Scrimmage during B-Team Game, HHS Gym, arrive by 5:30pm
    • 2/17/12 - Practice & Pictures, Elementary Gym, 2:00pm - 3:30pm
    • 2/17/12 - { optional } Open Gym in the Elementary or HS Gym, 3:30pm - 4:30pm
    • 2/24/12 - Practice, Elementary Gym, 2:00pm - 3:30pm

Go to Open Gym, Earn a Basketball!

Reminder: Open Gym is from 3:30-4:30pm every Sunday for Elementary-7th Graders. There is no fee and it's an awesome opportunity to practice basketball skills with friends, parents, etc. It is in the HS Gym, please use the west entrance. There is another great reason to attend Open Gym, besides extra practice time...the girls have the opportunity to earn a basketball. Each time they attend Open Gym, they receive a punch...after five punches, they receive a free basketball!

Practice Sunday 1-13-13, Schedule & Pictures

PRACTICE: We do have the gym this Sunday and after watching the girls last night, we are excited to teach them some game skills to prep for their next "performance" during halftime (February).

SCHEDULE/CALENDAR: The gym will be ours from 2pm-3:30pm for the rest of January and February, with the exception of Sunday, February 10th, due to the Boys HotShots Tourney. Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday. Our calendar always lists our practice and special events, so please check back when in doubt. Also, if anyone would like to be added so that you can add it to your own calendar, please email ladyhawleynuggets@gmail.com and we will add you to it.

SCRIMMAGE: We were so proud of the girls abilities and their courage to play a game in front of a crowd. Thank you for fitting this into your schedules...we know the 5:30pm time is a bit hard to squeeze in, but we appreciate the efforts. And thanks for coordinating the t-shirts as well...this made it easier for the girls to understand who was on their team. Reminder: they have one more opportunity to play during the B-Team Halftime, on February 14th. They are also invited to sit behind the players and watch the game. They can also stand in line with the Varsity during their lineup. Because we weren't 100% sure how it worked, we didn't worry about incorporating this last night, but will be a fun addition for the girls in February!

PICTURES/VIDEO: Check out the Pictures Tab for a snapshot of the girls before their scrimmage. We have also uploaded a link to the video Ryan took. If anyone took still photos, please email us at ladyhawleynuggets@gmail.com

    NO Practice 1-6-13 & Halftime Scrimmage 1-10-13

Due to a Hot Shots Tourney this weekend, we will not have access to the gym for practice this Sunday (January 6th). Unfortunately, we were really hoping to practice because the girls get to play against each other this Thursday during the B-Team halftime (see message from Coach Bill Gottenborg below). It is helpful for Coach Gottenborg and Coach Lofgren if the girls can arrive with half wearing maroon t-shirts and the other half wearing gold. I know at least four of the girls were on the Hawley Gold T-Ball team and I have quite a few extra shirts to lend people. Please email ladyhawleynuggets@gmail.com and let us know if you plan to attend and what shirt you have on hand.
